Vancouver Convention Centre
Event logistics and pandemic access control
People booked through the platform since 2020
Convention Centre staff trained
Venues — extended to BC Place Stadium in 2020
The challenge
The Convention Centre needed to coordinate hundreds of events a year, each with complex move-in and move-out logistics. When COVID-19 arrived, it also needed to know exactly who was in the building at any moment.
The solution
Voyage Control coordinated loading dock operations and client movements, then was adapted to act as the primary personnel access control system — managing arrivals, departures and contact tracing.
Implementation
Following a successful 2017 trial, the platform was first deployed at Fan Expo Vancouver. More than 100 staff were trained, and it expanded to sister facility BC Place Stadium in 2020.
The results
Over 100,000 people have been booked through the platform since the start of the pandemic. Emissions fell through more efficient move-in and move-out, holding lot parking costs were eliminated, and congregation at entry and exit points was better controlled.
