The challenge

Queue times at the Port of Los Angeles were rising against limited on-site space, while laborious communication gave almost no visibility of performance. Dated software infrastructure was holding operational efficiency back.

The solution

An appointment system accessible through a single interface for every stakeholder, developed collaboratively with the Harbor Truckers Association and marine terminal operators to address the trucking community’s specific concerns.

Implementation

Users were trained through on-site support and feedback sessions. The system gave real-time insight into container volume and retrieval times for imports.

The results

Average turn times fell by 19 minutes. Day shift improved 34% from 83 to 55 minutes and night shift 21% from 95 to 75 minutes. The terminal’s ranking rose from fifth to third, and 1,700 days of truck idling time were saved after launch.

“Voyage Control appointment system [is] one of the great successes of the past year at the San Pedro Port Complex.”
